A Thanksgiving Turkey
A "My Great Idea" from FamilyFun
My sons
and I came up with a Thanksgiving project that is not only fun, but
also helps us feel closer to our whole family on the holiday. At the
beginning of November, my eight-year-old son, Jason, cuts out
construction-paper turkey feathers and mails them to our relatives. He
asks that each person write on a feather what he or she is thankful for
that year and then return it to us. On Thanksgiving morning,
ten-year-old Matthew reads the feathers aloud, and his brother assembles
the turkey on a piece of poster board while their grandmother and I are
busy in the kitchen. Sharing the sentiments of our relatives who are
far away makes the day even more special for those of us who get
together for the holiday.
